About the Course

This eight-week drawing course will introduce the student to portrait drawing from life. The instructor will teach fundamentals of drawing, learning to see (“listening with the eyes”), witnessing personhood in portraiture, and cultivating patience through process, as well as discuss various resources and perspectives. Demonstration, discussion, introduction to materials and techniques, and guided hands-on learning will allow the student to feel comfortable with new processes.

This class culminates in a finished drawing.

Tuition includes eight classes, all drawing materials, and model fee.

Excellent for artists high school through professional level interested in learning to draw the portrait from life.

ABOUT THE Instructor

Nathan Bertling is a Spartanburg native and Greenville resident and artist. His passion for communication led him to interdisciplinary studies at Furman University where he studied painting, drawing, public speaking and poetry. He joined the atelier of North Carolina master artist Benjamin F. Long, IV, in Asheville, NC. There he apprenticed and taught for 6 years.
